It has been ingrained in us that we are supposed to eat 3 meals a day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Unfortunately, anything that we eat outside of these three meals is considered “extra,” which is why snacking gets such a bad rep. It is time to change this mindset. 

While most of us will continue to eat 2 to 3 big meals a day, eating in-between each is not a forbidden behavior. In fact, you should welcome it! It doesn’t matter if you ate lunch 30 minutes prior or if dinner wrapped up a few hours before. If you are feeling hungry, listen to your body and pick up a snack. 

Now, knowing exactly what to snack on can be tricky, and there are definitely foods that you should avoid. If you are someone who eats full meals a couple of times a day, it is a good idea to be conscious of the foods that you eat intermittently to ensure you are not over consuming or putting misleading foods that are actually not so healthy in your body.

Chances are that your favorite store-bought baked crackers are low in fat. Pair them low-fat cottage cheese, lean cuts of meat, or salsa, all of which are low-fat themselves!

Yogurt & Fresh Fruit 

Fat-free dairy yogurt (which may also be labeled as light) is a great low-fat snack when paired with fresh fruit and a drizzle of honey. There are a handful of dairy-free yogurts that are also low in fat, just check the label before you buy! 

Protein-Packed Smoothie 

Leafy greens and fruits are the low-fat, boldly nutritious foods that will transform snacking for you. Throw a healthy mix of fruits and greens in a smoothie with coconut water or fat-free milk and blend with your favorite protein powder. This snack will bring you an amazing variety of nutrients, but will also keep you feeling satisfied.
