Quarantine. Need I say more?
We are all feeling the struggles of quarantine, especially when it comes to maintaining our health and fitness levels. We have worked so hard to establish new habits and maybe we were just settling into a groove before COVID-19 came into play. This is frustrating, no doubt. However, it is in times like these where we have to trust the adaptability of our bodies.
We are capable of reseting our expectations, our intentions and habits... and the word reset does not have to be a bad thing. Shifting a workout from a public gym space to the living room does not have to be a calorically compromising modification. Working from home does not mean you have to lounge around in your pajamas all day. And cooking at home for every meal does not have to be a drain of your energy. The following are some tips and tricks on how to best adapt your health and fitness regime for the coming days of quarantine.
- Write down and commit to a general routine. This may encompass setting an alarm in the morning, showering before you start your day or maybe allocating a specific time to workout just as if you were to sign up for a workout class. Setting a schedule for yourself is an easy way to stay on track and to keep moving throughout the day.
- Change out of your pajamas! This may sound silly, but changing into clothes that you would typically wear to work or out to run errands is a great way to channel the mindset and productivity that you exercised before you were stuck at home.
- Cooking at home for every meal, especially if you are cooking for more than yourself, may initially strike as a drain of energy. Change the way you think about this new responsibility and instead view it as the opening of a new creative outlet. Try new recipes or meal prep in new ways! There are endless possibilities.
- One word— cravings. This may just be the most consistent and intense battle to be fought during quarantine. There are not many solutions to being locked up inside and experiencing waves of boredom except for a pint of ice-cream or bags on bags of chips and crackers. Before you give into the sweet tooth, check out the recipe below. It is the perfect way to ward off the sweet craving in the morning, afternoon or night.
